Default Monks -- Help please!

Hi,

I'm making a new character which I want to be a healer - not a PVP character, but someone I can go through the game with and join lots of parties.

What's the best secondary class to have with a monk who's going to heal? Or do I need to make monk my secondary class if I want to be a healer? e.g. E/Mo ??

Thanks

well if youre going to be strictly healer i would suggest warrior, simply to use sprint when youre targeted, but usually your entire skill bar is filled with monk skills (i know mine is)

If it'll only be PVE, secondary won't matter much. I took Mo/Me for channeling, but never really used it. My setup:

Divine Favor 13 (10 + 2 major + 1 hat)
Healing Ps 14 (12 + 2 major)
Protection 11 (9 + 2 major)

The -150 health doesn't matter if you are smart about your play. A monk shouldn't even be targetted much in PVE. Learn to stay out of aggro and use your distance casting to your advantage.

Skills:
Healing Breeze
Word of Healing
Reversal of Fortune
Shielding Hands
Healing Seed
Heal Party
Aegis
Rebirth

How I use it:

When the warrior or wars charge in, cast Healing Seed on one of them. Count 12 seconds and cast Aegis. In between those two, the warriors should be just fine. Heal anyone else as necessary with Breeze/WoH/Reversal and protect any softies with Shielding Hands. If your party runs into any AOE baddies, pop a Heal Party in there somewhere. Just don't overheal and waste energy!

If any of the warriors get into big trouble (say an hydra meteor or something), pop Reversal onto them or if they are really low, WoH. Both are 5 energy spam spells with quick casts.

I've never really had energy issues using that. Most fights in PVE won't last long enough for HS and Aegis to wear off and leave your tanks high and dry. So you protect them, then heal your softies as necessary.

If you still are running out of energy, exchange WoH for Orison and take along Peace and Harmony instead of Heal Party. Although this really cuts into your mass heals, but you can spam Orison and Reversal I guess.

As a monk primary I don't use my secondary class skills in PvE in most of my builds. Especially in places like FoW or UW I like to max out in 2 or 3 monk attributes.

Thanks for the link.

I've checked it out but I have no idea where those places are, or where to get those skills. I'm quite new at GW, despite having a level 17 character. I still haven't figured out the higher aspects of the game because I've only reached Lion's Arch.

It also seems that that particular build is an exploit -- do you think it could be patched over soon?

Thanks for your help Eagle. I'll take that into consideration.

So...basically...the secondary profession doesn't matter much?

Not really, I mean basicically you never put points into attributes s from your secondary as a healing monk...

So then look at what "no attribute skills" a class gives...

If you had to pick one, I'd go with Elementalist, the glyphs can be insanely powerful if used in the right frame of refrence, glyph of lesser energy can be used to help keep costs lower, glyph of sacrifice + light of Dwayna can be used for an instant whole party raise, there are alot of things you can do.

I can't concur with the "secondary doesn't matter" advice you're receiving. I built a monk with the intention of going through PvE, unlocking all the Mo/W skills (well, except that piece of crap Holy Wrath), and moving to PvP with her. I chose /W as a secondary and was glad I did! Doing so allowed me to easily solo everything up until Yak's. Even after Yak's, I was able to easily solo many, many quests and farming areas. The ability to solo as much as possible in the game is huge because the henchies (for all their wonderful traits) are sub-optimal and trying to find a quality PUG is a nightmare.

well I may B new to the forums but I have a max lvl Mo/R and I must say that it worked out well rangers get a few running skills so that helps. I did try to do the Mo/W and that didn't work out well with partys cuz warriors die alot and when the healer dies so does everyone else.

Ack! Conflicting information.

So....it's either monk/warrior....or monk/elementalist; I'm not sure which.

Moved to The Campfire, where there are already lots of builds there to check out. No need to start a whole new post.
